As the Yankees continue to move towards a youth movement, many teams are taking notice, especially Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim CF Mike Trout.
Trout witnessed Aaron Judge, Tyler Austin, Chad Green, Luis Cessa and Gary Sanchez first hand as both teams played in a three-game series from Friday to Sunday afternoon, and the first thing he mentioned was how impressed he was with the kids.
“All of their young players look really good. I’m impressed,” Trout said prior to the Yankees 2-0 loss against the Angels on Sunday afternoon.
Trout witnessed Sanchez’s throw first hand when he was caught stealing during Sunday’s game, and he was baffled by Cessa when Cessa shut down the Angels in six innings.
“So far Sanchez has been great,” Trout said about the Yankees catcher before discussing Cessa, who took the mound on Saturday. “Cessa’s got a bunch of pitches. He obviously throws hard. He kept us off-balanced and that’s what a good pitcher should do.”
Many Yankees fans have Trout on their wish list, but even if the team doesn’t get Trout, they still have future stars in their farm system, which would help build a strong Yankees team for years to come.
“When younger guys get opportunities, you like to see them take advantage of it,” Trout said. “They’re good for the game.”
